Feeling Heavy Metal

Remember those old Acne Atacoma's or the mirror wedges that were all over the blogosphere or even your first shoe studding experience? Looks like shoes and metal are going to be an item for longer than you thought with Balenciaga pre-fall and Chanel Couture incorporating some metallic footwear.

Below is a video of a japanese installation. It's basically two ferrofluid (magnetic liquid) sculptures moving to music by Testuhide Hidaka.

"Fluid moves synthetically with the music, as if it breathes, and the condition of the fluid's surface emerges as autonomous and complex. In this art we want to harmonize several opposing properties, such as hardness (iron) / softness (fluid) and freedom (desire for design) / restriction (natural powers such as gravity). This work emerges as an autonomous transformation of the material itself: sometimes it seems like a horn, sometimes a fir tree, and sometimes even like the Tower of Babel."

Included in this, !A TRUNK SHOW! is BLANDs most recent foray into future primitive performance “trumpeting the ultimate crushing joke: the future seen through an anachronistic looking-glass, the prism of alterity and tacky exoticism allegorized in an unabashedly “fucked up” dance performance” as well as a grouping of special ephemeral “video things” most notably including the BLAND spring summer 2010 performance and a remix of the BLAND spring 2010 performance, composed confusingly to selected musical works of The FALL.

In addition to this special performance !A TRUNK SHOW! Will include a gurgitation of quasi-dubious art works as installation. Featuring sculptures, printed works, multi-media pieces, works on paper, works on pegboard and of course the quintessential BLAND clothing collections of fall winter 2009 and spring summer 2010, All this along with all the other mierda that is supposed to go on at !A TRUNK SHOW!

It no secret that we love scoping out what people are wearing around the world, but in the last couple of weeks we've spotted some cool kids wearing pieces that you can pick up right here at EVA!

This girl-on-the-go was snapped by Jak and Jil for style.com's Paris fashion week blog. She's wearing shredded pants by BANUBORA that can be found at EVA on Bowery.

Who doesn't love a head-to-toe look? See, it IS possible to wear bold patterns and still remain as relaxed as ever. The fellow above was shot by The Facehunter. We happen to carry all of the pieces seen above, with slight variation:

So the weather here in NYC has recently taken a turn towards the cold, gloomy, and wet. Yep, its that time of the year again when the changing of the seasons has made itself VERY well known. Luckily, we have some pieces here at EVA that are built to combat the elements and change a drab day into a celebration of sartorial selection!

1. Imagine: its autumn, leaves are falling all around, you can see your breath as you sigh, and you're feeling romantic. What's more appropriate than a wool cape? There's as elegant as the sweeping silhouette of this Henrik Vibskov number paired with leggings and boots up to your knees (or thighs, depending on your neve). Plus pockets? We're totally sold.

2. We're suckers for jumpsuits, and are thrilled that we can continue wearing them as the thermometers drop. This particular piece by Stine Goya combines the functionaity of deep pockets and a stretchy waist with the flash of a wrap-around zipper and unexpected cut of the pants. Still not convinced that one-pieces are the key to happiness? Remember that by donning a coverall, you only have to settle on ONE piece of clothing, eliminating any stress of seperates.

3. Here at EVA, we tend to be drawn towards a darker color pallet, which is why we triumphantly embrace accessories that pop out against a sea of noir. Reminiscent of legoland & childhood nostalgia, these Henrik Vibskov mittens make us think of a time when finger painting was the pinnacle of expression, and figuring out the perfect layering pieces was was up to mom, not the difficult and task it is today.

4. The natural remedy for arctic apartments is a good ol' sweater, but the EVA girl tends to push the enevelope a bit...we say, why not wear sweater pants? These cobalt Henrik Vibskov trousers mimick the ease of a pullover, but are anything but basic. We're still not done with the drop-crotch look, and in bright blue they'll distract you from the fact that your heater hasn't been fixed since last winter.

5. Who says you can't wear dresses in the wintertime? As avid fans of frocks, we turn to longer sleeves and heavier fabrics to make our garb of choice more practical. This dress by Samantha Pleet offers a step up - a flirty cutout that is reminiscent of our favorite crop tops from summertime, but with weather-appropriate wool to keep us warm.

"Willoughby's all-black womenswear collection is illuminated with a strobe light, emphasizing the collection's mixed references to both campy horror film and complex noir. The designs are extraordinarily elaborate, with details hidden beneath other details: metal studs, coursetry and rivets, buried beneath drapes of jersey cloth and black lace. The c.neeon collection is inspired by the Russian artist and fashion designer Sonja Delaunay, who cofounded the Orphism art movement in the first half of the 21st century. The collection draws from the movement’s experimental use of strong colors and geometric shapes. In order to complete their playful yet clear and strong looks c.neeon were searching for key accessories. "We found the perfect match in MYKITA's modern, retro-inspired Collection No. 2 glasses, and Rike Feurstein's stylish, sculptural hat silhouettes and surfaces", explains Clara Leskovar of c.neeon, "so we immediately decided to collaborate. Rike has done a color palette especially for c.neeon to match our collection".
