When was the Taff Trail built?
History. The trail was launched in September 1988 by Sir Wyn Roberts, Minister of State for the Welsh Office. The project was initiated and co-ordinated by the Merthyr and Cynon Groundwork Trust, with the co-operation of the local councils through whose areas the trail passes.

This path was extremely steep, and I frequently had to get off my bike and walk (although a better cyclist with a better bike would probably handle the hills better than I did). It was definitely worth it to see this interesting little castle. Castell Coch has a great story.

Where is the best place to climb the Taff Trail in Wales?
Some slight respite from the climb is experienced around Abercynafon before the final push up to Talybont Reservoir which is the highest point of the Taff Trail. Some of the best views in Wales can be had here before the sharp decline down through Llanfrynach and on to the final destination, Brecon.
